Established in 1823 as the École de Médecine de Pondichéry under French colonial rule, the institution evolved significantly after Puducherry’s integration with India. In 1956, it was renamed Dhanvantri Medical College and later, in 1964, it was inaugurated as the Jawaharlal Institute of Postgraduate Medical Education and Research (JIPMER) by President Dr. S.
