Overview

Zoram Medical College (ZMC), located in Falkawn, near Aizawl, Mizoram, is the first and only medical college in the state. Established in 2018, the college is run by the Government of Mizoram and affiliated with Mizoram University. It is recognized by the National Medical Commission (NMC). The college was established to provide medical education to local students and strengthen healthcare infrastructure in the North-East region of India.


Courses Offered (2025)

Undergraduate (UG)

  • MBBS (Bachelor of Medicine & Bachelor of Surgery)

    • Duration: 5.5 years (4.5 years academic + 1-year compulsory rotating internship)

    • Intake: 100 MBBS seats annually

Postgraduate (PG) – Future Expansion

  • As of now, ZMC primarily offers MBBS. Postgraduate (MD/MS) courses are likely to be introduced gradually in coming years, depending on faculty strength, infrastructure, and NMC approval.


Eligibility

MBBS (NEET-UG 2025)

  • Educational Qualification: 10+2 with Physics, Chemistry, Biology/Biotechnology, and English.

  • Minimum Marks Required:

    • General/EWS: 50% aggregate in PCB

    • OBC/SC/ST: 40% aggregate in PCB

    • PwD (General): 45% aggregate

  • Age Limit: Must be 17 years old on or before 31st December 2025.

  • Entrance Exam: NEET-UG 2025 (mandatory).


Admission Process

  1. Qualify NEET-UG 2025 with the required cutoff percentile.

  2. Counselling:

    • 15% All India Quota (AIQ): Seats allotted through MCC counselling.

    • 85% State Quota: Reserved for Mizoram domicile students; counselling conducted by the state authority.

  3. Seat Allotment & Reporting: Candidates must report to Zoram Medical College with required documents, pay fees, and complete medical fitness checks.


Fee Structure

ZMC, being a government medical college, has affordable tuition compared to private institutions.

  • MBBS Tuition Fees (per year): 30,000 – 50,000 (INR) (approximate, as per state norms)

  • Hostel Fees: 12,000 – 20,000 (INR) per year (excluding mess charges)

  • Mess Charges: 3,000 – 4,000 (INR) per month

  • Caution Deposit: 5,000 – 10,000 (INR) (one-time, refundable)

  • Other University/Exam Fees: Nominal charges applicable

Placements, Internship & Career Opportunities

  • Internship: MBBS students complete a 1-year rotating internship in the attached teaching hospital, gaining clinical exposure in medicine, surgery, pediatrics, gynecology, community medicine, etc.

  • Stipend: Paid internship stipend as per Mizoram Government norms.

  • Post-MBBS Options:

    • Pursue MD/MS through NEET-PG / INI-CET.

    • Join government healthcare services in Mizoram or other states.

    • Work in private hospitals or establish private practice.

  • Like all government medical colleges, “placements” are not campus-based but depend on competitive exams and government recruitment drives.
