For backward classes / BC category the closing rank is about 1,574.
For other categories such as Scheduled Caste / Scheduled Tribe or community categories, closing ranks are higher (for ST around ~12,691).
In All India quota rounds, closing ranks vary widely by category: general category cutoffs are in the range ~ 6,500 – 13,500 (All India rank) depending on round and category.
PG (NEET PG)
PG programs in general medicine, paediatrics, emergency medicine, surgery, etc., have closing ranks in state quota from very low ranks up to a few thousands.
For general medicine (MD), closing rank in one round (state quota) is about up to ~3,000 in some categories.
For MS (surgery or obgyn), closing ranks are in the lower thousands (e.g. ~5,000–7,000) for general / backward categories.
Cutoffs have shown a trend of tightening over the years as demand increases, but state quota ranks remain much more favourable for Tamil Nadu domicile candidates.

Strengths, Challenges & Tips for Applicants
Strengths:
Government seat → very affordable fees → good value for money.
State domicile advantage → favourable cutoff ranks for Tamil Nadu candidates.
Good clinical exposure via attached hospital in a rural/semi-rural setting → exposure to rural health issues.
Hostel availability helps outstation students.
Challenges:
Competition is still strong, especially in general / OBC / EWS categories in All India quota.
PG seats are competitive; need good NEET PG rank to get preferred specialties.
Infrastructure may still be expanding in some departments / new batches; some departments / research labs may have room to grow.
Tips for aspirants:
Aim for rank below ~1,300 in Tamil Nadu state quota for general category for MBBS (a safe margin).
For All India quota, aim for rank better than ~10,000 (or more depending on category) to be safe.
For PG, target ranks in low thousands to get good specialties; practise mock counselling and use previous cutoffs as guidance.
Check bond details and hostel availability early if you are from out of state or outstation.
Visit campus or connect with current students / alumni to understand real hostel conditions and commutes.
