Surat Municipal Institute of Medical Education & Research (SMIMER) was established by the Surat Municipal Corporation in 2000 (some sources note 1999) as a municipal medical college affiliated with Veer Narmad South Gujarat University (VNSGU) and approved by the National Medical Commission (formerly MCI).
