ESIC Medical College, Gulbarga (also known as ESIC Gulbarga or ESIC Medical College Kalaburagi) is a government medical institute located in Kalaburagi (Gulbarga), Karnataka. It is operated under the Employees’ State Insurance Corporation (ESIC). The college is affiliated with Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences (RGUHS), Karnataka, and recognized by the National Medical Commission (NMC)

Established in 2013, ESIC Gulbarga has grown into a key medical institution in northern Karnataka, with a sizable teaching hospital (630+ beds) and multiple departments.

Eligibility & Admission Process

      • Minimum aggregate marks in PCB (as per NMC / Karnataka norms).
      • Valid score in NEET-UG 2025

  • For MD / MS (PG):
      • Must hold an MBBS degree from an NMC-recognized college.
      • Completion of one-year rotating internship.
      • Valid NEET-PG score.

Admission / Counselling Process

  1. Qualify the requisite exam (NEET UG for MBBS, NEET PG for MD/MS).

  2. Register for counselling via MCC (for AIQ / all India quota) and via Karnataka state counselling (KEA) for state quota seats.

  3. Fill preferences, including ESIC Gulbarga in option list.

  4. Seat allotment based on rank, category, and preferences.

  5. Document verification, fee payment, and joining at the college.

  6. Commencement of classes as per RGUHS / college schedule.

Because ESIC Gulbarga is a government-affiliated institute, a significant proportion of its MBBS seats are likely to follow state quota / state reservation norms (for Karnataka) with some seats reserved for All India Quota (AIQ)

Fee Structure (2025)

Here are approximate or known figures for ESIC Medical College Gulbarga’s tuition and associated fees. These are subject to final government / ESIC notification.

  • Full MBBS Course Total (tuition): ~ 4.7 (INR) lakhs (for entire duration)

These figures are drawn from recent published sources; students must verify with official ESIC / college release.

Cutoffs & Trends (2025 & Past Years)

MBBS (NEET UG) Cutoffs

  • For NEET UG Round 2, AIQ, the closing rank for General category was 14,031 at ESIC Gulbarga in 2025.

  • In prior years, the cutoffs (General category) were:
      • 2024: ~12,196
      • 2023: ~12,793

  • OBC (AIQ) Round 2 2025 cutoff: ~15,529

  • The cutoffs also vary by category (SC, ST, EWS) and by allotment round.

  • For Karnataka (state quota), cutoff trends are influenced heavily by state rank and competition.

  • According to Careers360, for 2024, the MBBS general category closing rank under All India was ~29,549 for ESIC Gulbarga (some difference in data)

PG (MD / MS) Cutoffs

PG cutoffs at ESIC Gulbarga depend on specialty and quota. Some recent trends include:

  • In 2024, for General Medicine, ANEUR, etc., the closing ranks in AIQ were in the thousands (e.g. rank ~3,111)

  • For Surgery and OBG, earlier closing ranks like ~7,905 for general surgery in AIQ have been reported.

  • Specialties in high demand (Radiodiagnosis, Cardiology etc.) are likely to have stricter cutoffs.

Because PG cutoffs are volatile and highly competitive, aspirants should aim for strong NEET-PG ranks especially for prime specialities.

Placements & Career Opportunities

Medical colleges generally don’t follow a campus placement model. Instead, graduates progress through internships, clinical postings, or specialist roles.

  • Internship: After MBBS, students undergo a 1-year rotating internship in the attached hospital.

  • Government / ESIC Service: Graduates may become Medical Officers under ESIC hospitals or other public health systems.

  • Postgraduate / Specialization: Many students prepare for NEET-PG to secure MD/MS or super-speciality roles.

  • Private Sector / Hospitals / Clinics: Some graduates join private hospitals or start independent practice.

  • Academic / Research Roles: Teaching, research in medical colleges or research institutes is another pathway.

Because ESIC Gulbarga is a government-affiliated institution with substantial hospital infrastructure and patient load, its graduates are relatively well-placed to compete in clinical roles in Karnataka and beyond.

Though I could not find well-documented average salaries or placement statistics specific to ESIC Gulbarga, many sources for ESIC colleges infer that medical graduates after specialization command competitive salaries in government / private hospitals.

Reputation, Strengths & Challenges

Reputation & Ranking

  • ESIC Gulbarga is often ranked among the top ESIC-affiliated medical colleges in Karnataka.

  • Some sources rank ESIC Gulbarga ~ #181 among medical colleges in India, and ~ #20 in Karnataka.

  • Because it is relatively newer (2013) compared to older government medical colleges, but backed by ESIC, it has fast grown in infrastructure and popularity.

Strengths

  • Government-backed institution (ESIC), thus more stability in funding and policy support

  • Reasonable fee structure (compared to private colleges)

  • Strong clinical exposure due to attached hospital with large bed count

  • Good variety of PG specializations

  • Location in Gulbarga gives access to underserved areas, and the potential for impactful health service

Challenges & Considerations

  • Very competitive cutoffs—especially for AIQ / non-Karnataka students

  • Infrastructure and faculty in less popular departments may be developing

  • Limitations in hostel or facility capacity as more students join

  • PG and super-speciality seats are limited, so not all aspirants can get desired specialization

  • Need to verify and confirm bond / service obligations (if any) under ESIC / government rules
