The exam pattern has been modified to assess students' ability to apply concepts in real-life scenarios, aligning with the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020.

CBSE Class 11, 12 Exam Pattern: Quick Breakdown of Modifications
1. 50% Weightage for Competency-Based Questions: Exam papers will now include a higher proportion of questions that test students’ ability to apply knowledge in real-world scenarios. Questions will include:

 

Multiple Choice Questions (MCQs)
Case-based questions
Source-based integrated questions

2. 20%  Weightage for Multiple Choice Questions (MCQs): 
MCQs or select response type questions will comprise 20% of the total marks. This type of questions have been included to encourage critical thinking and quick decision-making skills among students.

3. 30% Weightage for Constructed Response Type Questions: The weightage for traditional answer type questions such as short and long answer type questions has been reduced from 40% to make space for the competency-based questions.

1. Competency Focused Questions in the form of MCQs/ Case Based Questions, Source-based Integrated Questions or any other type = 40%
2. Select response type questions (MCQ) = 20%
3. Constructed response questions (Short Answer Questions/Long Answer type Questions, as per existing pattern) = 40%

Academic Session 2024-25
1. Competency Focused Questions in the form of MCQs/ Case Based Questions, Source-based Integrated Questions or any other type = 50%
2. Select response type questions (MCQ) = 20%
