Established under the Pradhan Mantri Swasthya Suraksha Yojana (PMSSY), AIIMS Rae Bareli is one of the newer AIIMS institutions aimed at expanding access to quality medical education and healthcare services in Uttar Pradesh and northern India. It is fully funded by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Government of India.
