New Delhi: In a major reform aimed at improving transparency and efficiency in board examinations, the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has announced that post-result verification of marks for Class 12 will be discontinued from 2026.
The decision comes as CBSE transitions to a fully digital evaluation system through On-Screen Marking (OSM). Officials stated that the move will significantly reduce human errors such as incorrect totalling, missing marks, or calculation discrepancies.
CBSE’s Shift to On-Screen Marking (OSM)
The announcement was made during a workshop conducted by CBSE for school principals and teachers to explain the implementation process of the new digital system.
Under the On-Screen Marking (OSM) system, Class 12 answer sheets will be evaluated digitally. This change is expected to:
Eliminate totalling errors
Prevent unmarked responses
Improve accuracy in marks calculation
Enhance overall transparency in the evaluation process
However, Class 10 answer sheets will continue to be evaluated in physical mode for now.
Why CBSE Removed Post-Result Verification
CBSE Examination Controller Sanyam Bhardwaj explained that students earlier applied for verification mainly to address issues such as totalling mistakes or missing entries.
“In the older system, students sought verification to check discrepancies in whole numbers or missing marks. With digital evaluation, such errors will be eliminated at the outset,” he said.
Since the digital system automatically calculates marks and reduces manual intervention, the need for post-result verification will no longer arise for Class 12 from 2026.
Board Exams 2026 Timeline
The CBSE board examinations are scheduled to begin from February 17 this year.
This reform marks a significant step in CBSE’s efforts to modernise the evaluation process and ensure greater fairness and transparency in board exam results.
