CBSE Warns Schools and Parents Against Fake NCERT Textbooks

The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has issued a warning to parents and schools against the purchase of counterfeit and fake NCERT textbooks currently circulating in the market. In an official circular sent to the heads of all CBSE-affiliated schools, the Board has directed institutions to ensure that only authorised NCERT books are procured and used by students.

According to the CBSE, it has come to the Board’s notice that several unauthorised sellers are supplying fake NCERT textbooks at discounted prices. These counterfeit books are reportedly of poor print quality and contain multiple printing and content-related errors, which could negatively impact students’ learning outcomes.

The Board has urged schools to circulate this advisory among teachers, parents, and students and to strictly ensure compliance in order to protect academic standards and maintain the quality of educational resources.

Speaking on the issue, Anand Vihar School principal Shailesh Zope said that parents have consistently been advised to purchase only genuine textbooks. “The lack of an NCERT watermark and substandard printing quality are clear indicators of counterfeit books,” he noted.

Meanwhile, Prabodh Pandya, general secretary of the Madhya Pradesh Paalak Mahasangh, stated that fake NCERT books are widely available in the market. He revealed that large consignments of counterfeit textbooks were seized during raids in Bhopal and Jabalpur. Pandya also expressed concern over the lack of counselling by some schools on the issue. “Identifying an original NCERT book is straightforward. A genuine book carries the NCERT hologram, while those without it are fake,” he added.
