In a major, student-friendly move, the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has introduced a full refund policy for re-evaluation fees if a Class 12 student’s marks increase after the review process. The decision aims to bring greater relief, transparency, and accountability to the board’s evaluation mechanism.
The policy change arrives on the heels of growing concerns from parents and students regarding the newly implemented On-Screen Marking (OSM) evaluation system. Many stakeholders claimed that the digital evaluation process led to lower-than-expected scores in the recently concluded CBSE Class 12 board examinations.
Confirming the development during a press conference, Sanjay Kumar, Secretary of the Department of School Education and Literacy under the Ministry of Education, outlined the structural timeline and the step-by-step breakdown of the costs involved for students seeking transparency in their results.
Step-by-Step Fee Structure for Marks Review
To help students make data-backed and informed choices before committing to a full re-evaluation, the board has outlined a structured, multi-tier review mechanism:
Scanned Copies: Students can obtain digital, scanned copies of their evaluated answer sheets for a nominal fee of INR 100 per subject.
Verification of Marks: A fee of INR 100 is applicable for an initial verification of totaling and unchecked answers.
Re-checking Specific Answers: Students can challenge specific questions for deep reassessment at a rate of INR 25 per question.
If the designated subject matter experts find any discrepancies and revise the student's marks upward during this process, the board will issue a complete refund of the processing fees back to the applicant.
Crucial Dates and Deadlines for Class 12 Students
The CBSE has officially opened the digital windows for students wishing to challenge their scores. Students must adhere to the following strict timeline to submit their online requests:
| Event / Process | Opening Date | Closing Date |
| Online Applications for Scanned Copies of Answer Sheets | May 19, 2026 | May 22, 2026 |
| Applications for Verification and Full Re-evaluation | May 26, 2026 | May 29, 2026 |
The board has assured that independent subject experts will meticulously handle every verification and re-evaluation request to guarantee absolute fairness, accuracy, and error-free results in this cycle.
