CBSE Class 10, 12 Practical Exams 2026: Board Releases Strict Guidelines

The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has issued a stern reminder to all its affiliated schools across India regarding the conduct of Class 10 and Class 12 practical examinations, internal assessments, and project work for the 2025–26 academic session. The board has emphasized strict compliance to ensure a fair, transparent, and timely evaluation process.

Key Instructions for Schools:

  • Mandatory Schedule: Practical exams, projects, and internal assessments must be conducted between January 1 and February 14, 2026, and completed within this window. Marks must be uploaded on the same day the assessment is conducted.

  • Answer Books & Labs: Schools must ensure ample practical answer books and fully equipped laboratories are ready before exams begin. Any shortage must be reported immediately to the CBSE Regional Office.

  • Examiner Rules: For Class 12, only CBSE-appointed external examiners are permitted to evaluate students. Use of unauthorized personnel may lead to the exam being declared invalid.

  • Special Arrangements: Provisions must be made for Children with Special Needs (CWSN) to comfortably appear in practicals, ensuring equal assessment opportunities.

  • No Exemptions: Students participating in national or international sports or other events will not be given exemptions or separate dates outside the official schedule.

Guidelines for Students:

  • Carry valid school ID cards and report to the exam venue on time.

  • Follow lab safety rules and examiner instructions throughout the practicals.

  • Prepare thoroughly for viva-voce, project defence, and practical demonstrations.

  • Any unfair means or malpractice may lead to cancellation of marks and disciplinary action.

Strict Compliance & Action:

CBSE has warned that any deviation from the prescribed guidelines could trigger strict disciplinary measures, including cancellation of practical exams, withdrawal of affiliation for schools, or other legal action. The board has also updated the remuneration structure for exam functionaries for this session.

Board’s Objective:

The strict guidelines aim to create uniformity, transparency, and fairness across all CBSE-affiliated institutions during the practical evaluation process. Students, parents, and school authorities are urged to carefully review the official notice available on cbse.gov.in and adhere to the instructions to avoid complications.
