CBSE Issues Advisory on Strict Section-Wise Answer Writing for Class 10 Board Exams

The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has issued a strict advisory for students appearing in the Class 10 board examinations in 2026, warning that answers written outside the designated sections in the answer booklet will not be evaluated under any circumstances

According to the board’s directive, the Science and Social Science question papers have been redesigned with a section-wise format, and students must replicate this structure exactly in their answer sheets.

Under the new guidelines:

  • The Science paper is divided into three sections -Biology, Chemistry and Physics.

  • The Social Science paper contains four sections -History, Geography, Political Science and Economics

Students are now required to physically divide their answer books into corresponding sections and write answers only within the space allotted for each. Any response placed in the wrong section or mixed between sections will be left unmarked, with no marks awarded

CBSE officials have emphasised that strict adherence to these instructions is essential and that evaluation will not consider answers written outside the designated section even during later processes like verification or re-evaluation.

To help students familiarise themselves with the revised layout, CBSE has made sample question papers available on its academic website. Schools have also been advised to incorporate practice of section-wise answer writing in regular classroom sessions and pre-board examinations to reduce errors during the final board exams.

The move is part of CBSE’s broader effort to improve the clarity and quality of evaluation by ensuring answers are clearly segregated according to subject sections, thereby minimising confusion for evaluators.
