UP Board Class 10 Social Science – Consumer Rights

The chapter “Consumer Rights” helps students understand the importance of being aware and responsible consumers in the marketplace. Consumers often face problems such as overpricing, poor quality products, misleading advertisements, and unfair trade practices. To protect consumers from exploitation, the Consumer Protection Act (COPRA), 1986 was introduced, which gives consumers the right to seek justice.

Consumers have several important rights such as the Right to Safety, Right to Information, Right to Choose, Right to Redressal, and Right to Consumer Education. If a consumer faces any issue, they can file complaints in Consumer Courts, also known as District, State, and National Commissions.

The chapter also highlights the importance of Hallmark, ISI, and Agmark labels, which indicate product quality.
By being aware of their rights and responsibilities, consumers can make fair decisions and help create a healthy marketplace.
