UP Board Class 10 Social Science – Federalism

The chapter “Federalism” explains how power is shared between different levels of government to ensure effective administration. In a federal system, power is divided between the central government and state governments, each having its own responsibilities. This division is clearly mentioned in the Constitution of India, which lists subjects under the Union List, State List, and Concurrent List.

India is described as a federal country with a strong central government, yet states have their own powers to manage local issues. Additionally, local self-government bodies like Panchayats and Municipalities play an important role at the grassroots level.

Federalism encourages unity in diversity by giving importance to regional languages, culture, and identity.
The system ensures cooperation, reduces conflicts, and strengthens democracy by bringing the government closer to the people.
