Q.

Let f(x)=sin(π6sin(π2sinx)), for all x∈R and g(x)=π2sinx, for all x∈R. Let (f∘g)(x) denote f(g(x)) and (g∘f)(x) denote g(f(x)). Then which of the following is (are) true             [2015]

1 Range of f is [-12,12]
2 Range of f∘g is [-12,12]
3 limx→0f(x)g(x)=π6
4 There is an x∈R such that (g∘f)(x)=1

Ans.

(1, 2, 3)

f(x)=sin(π6sin(π2sinx))

-1≤sinx≤1 ⇒ -π2≤π2sinx≤π2

⇒-1≤sin(π2sinx)≤1⇒-π6≤π6sin(π2sinx)≤π6

⇒-12≤sin[π6sin(π2sinx)]≤12

∴  Range of f=[-12,12]

Now,  (f∘g)(x)=sin(π6sin(π2sinx))

Range of (f∘g)=[-12,12]

Now,  limx→0f(x)g(x)=limx→0sin(π6sin(π2sinx))π2sinx

=limx→0sin(π6sin(π2sinx))π6sin(π2sinx)×π6sin(π2sinx)π2sinx

=1×π6=π6

Now,  (g∘f)(x)=π2sin(sin(π6sin(π2sinx)))-π2sin(12)≤g(f(x))≤π2sin(12)

Let π2sin(12)=p

Clearly, 0<p<1

∴  -π2sin(12)≤g(f(x))≤π2sin(12)

-p≤g(f(x))≤p⇒0<p<1

∴  (g∘f)(x)≠1  for any x∈R.
