Q.

Let f be a real polynomial of degree n such that f(x)=f'(x)f''(x), for all x∈R. If f(0) = 0, then 36(f'(2)+f''(2)+∫02f(x)dx) is equal to:          [2026]

1 42
2 46
3 56
4 66

Ans.

(3)

We have, f(x)=f'(x)·f''(x)

From balancing degree,

        n = n – 1 + n – 2

⇒ n = 3

∴   f(x) is a cubic polynomial,

Also, f(0) = 0

Let say f(x)=ax3+bx2+cx

              f'(x)=3ax2+2bx+c

              f''(x)=6ax+2b

Now, f(x)=f'(x)·f''(x)

ax3+bx2+cx=(3ax2+2bx+c)(6ax+2b)

⇒ ax3+bx2+cx=18a2x3+(6ab+12ab)x2+(4b2+6ac)x+2bc

Comparing coefficients, we get

        a=18a2

⇒ a=118        (∵ a≠0)

         b = 18 ab

⇒ b=b          (Using a=118)

       c=4b2+6ac

       c=4b2+c3           (∵ a =118)

⇒ 2c3=4b2 ⇒ c=6b2

        2bc = 0

⇒ b=0 or c=0

If b=0 ⇒ c & if c=0 ⇒ b=0

∴   f(x)=118x3 ⇒ f'(x)=x26

⇒ f''(x)=x3

Now, 36(f'(2)+f''(2)+∫02f(x)dx)

             =36(46+23+∫02x319dx)

             =24+24+3618(x44)|02

             =48+24(24)=48+8=56
