Q.

Let α, β be the roots of the equation x2–3x+r=0, and α2, 2β be the roots of the equation x2+3x+r=0. If the roots of the equation x2+6x=m are 2α+β+2r and α–2β–r2, then m is equal to         [2026]

1 –135
2 –567
3 135
4 567

Ans.

(4)

α, β are the roots of x2–3x+r=0

∴ α+β=3 and αβ=r

α2, 2β are the roots of x2+3x+r=0

∴ α2+2β=–3 and αβ=r

Now, α+β=3 and α+4β=–6

⇒ β=–3, α=6 and r=–18

Now, roots are 2α+β+2r and α–2β–r2=12–3-36, 6+6+9=–27,21

∴ Roots of x2+6x–m=0 are –27, 21

∴ (–27)(21) = –m ⇒ m = (27)(21) ⇒ m = 567
