Statement I: In C3 plants, some O2 binds to RuBisCO, hence CO2 fixation is decreased.
Statement II: In C4 plants, mesophyll cells show very little photorespiration while bundle sheath cells do not show photorespiration.

In the light of the above statements, choose the correct answer from the options given below:
1 Both Statement I and Statement II are true.

RuBisCO enzyme shows affinity for both CO2and O2 molecules. The relative concentration of these determines which of the two will bind to the enzyme. In C3 plants, sometimes O2 does bind to RuBisCO which reduces CO2 fixation and the plant enters the pathway of photorespiration. C4 plants lack the process called photorespiration.
