$\vec{v} = u \hat{i}$

Acceleration, $\vec{a} = \frac{\vec{v} - \vec{u}}{t}$

$\vec{a} = \frac{u \hat{i} + u \hat{j}}{t}$

Direction of acceleration $= \tan θ = \frac{v}{u} = 1$

$θ = 45 °$ along north-east, force is also acting towards north-east.
