Cutoffs (Previous Years) & Expected Trends for 2025
MBBS, General/AIS / State Quota: In recent year (2024), MBBS closing ranks for general category (rounds of counselling) have been around ~ 8,074 in some rounds.
PG Cutoffs (NEET PG) & Super-Speciality: For various specialities in earlier years, the closing ranks have ranged widely, depending on speciality, category. Example: for Anaesthesiology, General Surgery, etc., some cutoffs in previous years are in low thousands to tens of thousands depending on category.
Expected for 2025: While exact cutoff ranks not yet released, one can expect for MBBS general category a rank in similar range or possibly tighter (i.e. lower rank number) depending on NEET difficulty and number of applicants. Reserved categories will see somewhat relaxed rank thresholds. For PG specialities, highly competitive branches (Dermatology, Radiology, etc.) will need high NEET PG scores / low rank numbers.
RSMC – MBBS Cutoff Trend (AIQ Closing Ranks)
Year | General | OBC | EWS | SC | ST |
---|---|---|---|---|---|
2023 | ~ 7,940 | ~ 8,726 | ~ 8,804 | ~ 46,281 | ~ 64,312 |

Ranking & Reputation
NRSMC is highly respected among government medical colleges in India and especially in West Bengal.
According to recent rankings, it appears in top 25-30 of medical colleges nationally; among the highest in West Bengal.
Strong infrastructure, long history, high patient load (hospital is very busy) add to good clinical exposure.
Placements & Career Prospects
After MBBS, graduates generally do their rotatory internship as mandated. Following that, students may go for PG studies (MD/MS) through NEET PG. Many also take up junior resident or medical officer roles in government hospitals or private sector.
For PG / Super-Speciality students there are stipend/earnings during residency. While specific numbers vary by year and speciality, placement (or absorption into teaching hospitals, research institutions, or government service) is generally good because of the prestige and location of NRSMC.
Strengths & Things to Keep in Mind
Strengths:
Long legacy, high reputation among medical colleges in India.
Large clinical exposure because of busy hospital.
Broad range of courses (UG, PG, super-speciality).
Government college so fees are relatively affordable.
Challenges / Things to Check:
Competition is very high, especially for popular PG specialities.
Cutoffs tend to be strict in general category; reserved category students still benefit but must meet criteria.
Hostel or additional infrastructure facilities may vary; students should check current amenities.
Final Thoughts
For students targeting admission in 2025, NRSMC is among the top choices in West Bengal. If your NEET UG rank is in the strong range (especially for general category) it is realistic to aim for NRSMC, but you should also have backup options since there is intense competition. For PG aspirants, speciality choice and category will hugely affect your cutoff possibility.
