JEE Toppers Share Why Coaching and Mock Tests Are Key to Success

Whether it is a competitive entrance exam or a national-level admission test like the Joint Entrance Examination (JEE), coaching and mock tests often play a decisive role in a student’s preparation journey. While self-study remains important, a large number of aspirants today rely on structured guidance, mentorship, and regular assessments to stay focused, disciplined, and motivated throughout the long and demanding preparation process.

For JEE aspirants aiming for top ranks, mock tests are considered indispensable. They not only help students assess their preparation but also allow them to experience real exam conditions, refine time management skills, and build confidence before the final test.

The importance of coaching and mock exams is not just a theory-it is reflected in the preparation strategies of several JEE toppers and high rankers who have shared how these elements contributed to their success.

Coaching Played a Crucial Role, Say JEE Advanced Toppers

Korikana Rasagnya, who secured All India Rank (AIR) 78 in JEE Advanced, opted for coaching at a private institute to strengthen her preparation. Speaking about its impact, she highlighted the value of teacher guidance and doubt-solving.

“Coaching is very necessary because JEE Advanced is one of the toughest exams not only in India but globally. A teacher’s guidance is extremely important during preparation. Clearing doubts regularly makes a huge difference, and I believe my teachers played a crucial role in my overall development,” she told a media portal.

Echoing similar views, Saksham Jindal, who achieved AIR 2 in JEE Advanced, also credited coaching for giving him access to high-quality study resources and a structured schedule. Reflecting on his experience, he said that studying at a coaching centre provided him with well-designed materials and preparation plans based on mentors’ experience, which helped streamline his efforts.

Mock Tests Help Build Confidence and Improve Performance

Highlighting the role of mock exams, Atharva Kulkarni, who scored a 99.71 percentile in JEE Main, said that regular mock tests significantly improved his performance. According to him, mock tests helped simulate the pressure of the actual exam, strengthened time management, and boosted confidence.

“Mock tests played a crucial role in my preparation. They helped me get used to real exam conditions and manage time better. Most importantly, students should stay positive and not be discouraged by setbacks. Consistent effort, confidence, and smart preparation are key to achieving a high percentile,” he said in an interaction with a media portal.

Balanced Preparation Is the Key

The experiences shared by these toppers highlight that a balanced approach combining coaching, mock tests, and consistent self-study can significantly improve an aspirant’s chances of success. While individual strategies may vary, expert guidance and regular assessment remain powerful tools for students targeting top ranks in highly competitive exams like JEE.
