Cutoffs / Closing Ranks

Cutoffs vary by category (General, OBC, SC, ST) and by quota (All India, State quota) and from round to round. Below are typical recent (2024 / 2025) cutoffs as indicative benchmarks.

MBBS (UG) Cutoffs

  • For All India Quota (AIQ), in 2025 Round 2, the closing rank for General category was ~ 16,331

  • For OBC, SC, ST categories, the closing ranks vary widely (OBC ~ 17,411 AIQ; SC / ST ranks much higher)

  • For Karnataka State Quota, Round 2 cutoff ranks span ranges like 16,221 to ~ 1,72,246 across categories depending on reservation & subcategories

  • MD / MS closing ranks in 2024: for MD general medicine, pathology, etc., ranks in tens of thousands (e.g. pathology ~ 29,700)

  • For competitive branches like Dermatology, Obstetrics & Gynaecology, cutoffs are steep (e.g. OBG general ~ 8,136 rank)

  • Cutoffs also differ in state quota vs All India / open categories

These cutoffs should be taken as indicative; actual cutoffs in 2025 may shift.

Placements & Career Opportunities

As a medical college, “placements” are less about corporate recruitment and more about clinical practice, government postings, academic / hospital appointments, specialist practice, etc. Information specific to placement (salary packages) is limited in publicly available sources.

  • HIMS provides clinical exposure via its hospital, which helps graduates in securing internship, residency, fellowships, and practice opportunities.

  • There is limited data about average or highest salary / stipend placements in non-clinical roles. Some sources mention “highest package ~ INR 1 lakh” but this is not a standard metric for medical education.

  • Many MBBS / PG graduates from HIMS may take government medical officer positions, join hospitals (public or private), pursue super-specialization or academia.

Because the nature of medical education and careers differs from typical engineering / management placements, “placement statistics” are often not a key metric for medical colleges.

Ranking & Reputation

  • In some listings, HIMS Hassan has been ranked ~ 215 at all-India level and ~ 14 in Karnataka among medical colleges.

  • In another source, it is said to have NIRF ranking ~ 191 nationally, and rank ~ 13 in Karnataka.

  • It has recognition, established track record, affiliation to RGUHS, and enjoys a decent reputation in Karnataka’s medical education sphere.
