Government Medical College, Medak (GMC Medak) is one of the newer government medical institutions in Telangana, designed to increase access to medical education in the Medak region. It is located in Pillikotyal, Medak District. The college has recently secured its Letter of Permission (LOP) from the National Medical Commission and is now beginning its operations with MBBS seats.
Though still in early phases, GMC Medak promises to build modern infrastructure, a teaching hospital, and academic strength over time.
Courses Offered & Intake
MBBS (Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery) is currently the flagship and likely the only course offered initially.
Duration: 5 years 6 months (i.e. 4.5 years of academic + 1 year internship)
Annual intake: 50 seats (approved via Letter of Permission)
The standard seat division: 15% seats under All India Quota (AIQ), 85% under Telangana / state quota (KNRUHS counselling)
The college is attached to a ~250-bed teaching hospital to serve clinical training and healthcare delivery.
Fee Structure (Approximate / Indicated)
Because the college is new, comprehensive official fee data are limited, but a few estimates and analogous trends give us a picture.
Careers360 lists a “fees” of 87,000 (INR) (for MBBS) associated with GMC Medak.
Other sources suggest that government colleges in Telangana generally have modest tuition + other charges under state regulation.
The Telangana medical colleges’ fee norms are determined by KNRUHS in the state counselling setup.
So, one can expect that the tuition + academic fees + other charges for MBBS at GMC Medak would be moderate and in line with other government medical colleges in Telangana (i.e. relatively low compared to private institutions)
Admission & Eligibility
Admission Process
Admission is based on NEET-UG.
After the NEET result, candidates must participate in KNRUHS (Telangana) counselling for state quota seats, and MCC counselling for the 15% AIQ seats.
Students submit preferences, are allotted seats per rank, category, and availability, and then complete admission formalities with documentation and fee payment.
Eligibility Criteria
10+2 (or equivalent) with Physics, Chemistry, Biology / Biotechnology & English
Minimum aggregate in PCB (Physics + Chemistry + Biology) — typically 50% for General, relaxations for reserved categories
Age eligibility: Minimum 17 years by 31 December of the admission year
Candidates must meet domicile, caste / reservation, and related state / university norms.
Required documents: Mark sheets, passing certificates, birth / identity proof, caste / EWS certificate (if applicable), NEET admit & rank card, etc.
Cutoffs & Admission Trends
Because GMC Medak is very new, historical cutoff data is minimal. Also, most sources do not list detailed round-wise cutoffs by category yet.
Some indicative data and observations:
The college obtained its LOP from NMC on 13 September 2024, enabling it to start admitting students.
Careers360 lists the MBBS program with 50 seats.
There is no publicly available, reliable data yet for 2025 cutoffs (All India or state) specific to GMC Medak by category (General / OBC / SC / ST).
As the first batches admit, the cutoffs may start at relatively moderate levels compared to established medical colleges, but will likely increase over years as awareness and competition grow.
Hence, aspirants should keep an eye on KNRUHS official counselling notifications, state cutoff listings, and MCC / AIQ cutoff announcements for precise numbers when available.
Placements & Career Prospects
Given its infancy, GMC Medak does not yet have established placement statistics or an alumni track record. However, in medical education, the relevant outcome metrics generally include:
Postgraduate (MD / MS) admissions via NEET-PG
Clinical practice: Hospital appointments (government / private)
Research, public health roles, academic positions
In many cases, government medical colleges also have service / bond obligations or rural posting requirements as part of state regulation
Over time, once students complete MBBS and move on to internships and PG, GMC Medak’s placement success can be tracked via alumni data, PG seats secured, hospital recruitments, etc.
Ranking & Reputation
Being a new institution, GMC Medak is yet to participate meaningfully in national ranking systems like NIRF or other medical college rating frameworks.
Reputation will depend heavily on factors such as:
• Quality and strength of faculty
• Clinical exposure (patient load, hospital specialties)
• Research output, publications, academic collaborations
• Alumni performance, PG placements, student feedback
Given its location and government backing, GMC Medak has potential to become a solid choice for local aspirants in Telangana and adjacent regions.
Strengths & Challenges
Strengths
Government-run institution with potential for affordable medical education
Modern infrastructure being developed
Teaching hospital with ~250 beds — adequate for initial clinical exposure
Moderate intake (50 seats) allows for manageable student-faculty ratios initially
Challenges
No historical data — alumni, reputation, placements not yet established
Clinical infrastructure, specialty departments, case volume may take time to scale
No PG courses initially — limiting postgraduate opportunities locally
Competition from older, well-established medical colleges in Telangana
