AI Toppers Are Here: Gemini 2.5 Pro Beats Everyone in JEE Advanced!

In a groundbreaking development, Google’s AI model Gemini 2.5 Pro has outperformed over a million candidates in the JEE Advanced 2025 — one of the toughest college entrance exams in the world. This achievement was detailed in a recent study released by Chinese tech company ByteDance, as reported by Outlook Business.

According to the technical report, Gemini 2.5 Pro scored an impressive 336.2 out of 360, securing the top rank. In comparison, the highest-scoring human candidate earned 332 marks, while the 10th-ranked student scored 317.

ByteDance noted,

“Compared to India’s top human test-takers, Gemini 2.5 Pro and Seed 1.6-Thinking achieved top 10 equivalent scores. Gemini demonstrated exceptional performance in Physics and Chemistry, while Seed 1.6-Thinking accurately solved all five sampled math tests.”

This signals the rapid evolution of large language models (LLMs) in handling complex academic tasks with remarkable precision.

About the JEE Advanced

The JEE Advanced is considered among the most challenging exams globally, attempted by only the top 2.5 lakh students who qualify through JEE Main. It consists of two extensive 3-hour papers that test deep understanding in Mathematics, Physics, and Chemistry, featuring negative marking to ensure accuracy and critical thinking.

How Did Other AI Models Perform?

Gemini 2.5 Pro wasn’t alone in the AI leaderboard:

  • Seed 1.6-Thinking (ByteDance) – 329.6 (Top 10)

  • Claude Opus 4 (Anthropic) – 314.4 (Rank 13)

  • OpenAI’s o4-mini-high – 308.4 (Rank 18)

Seed 1.6-Thinking, an upgraded model from ByteDance, benefited from more computing power and a broader training corpus—including puzzles, programming, and visual tasks. It uses long-chain-of-thought reasoning and parallel decoding, which improves its ability to process more data and solve harder questions without retraining.

It even showed a significant 8-point improvement on the Beyond AIME math test and demonstrated stronger coding skills.

AI’s Push Toward Superintelligence

The success of models like Gemini and Seed 1.6-Thinking reflects the AI industry’s accelerating shift toward superintelligent reasoning systems. As part of this trend, Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg recently announced the launch of Meta Superintelligence Labs, onboarding major AI figures such as Alexandr Wang (ex-Scale AI CEO) and Nat Friedman (ex-GitHub CEO).

Amid this momentum, Meta is reportedly poaching top AI researchers from OpenAI, including Shengjia Zhao, Jiahui Yu, Hongyu Ren, and Shuchao Bi, intensifying the tech race in Silicon Valley.

AI vs. Human: A Fair Battle?

While the results are fascinating, it’s important to note that AI models operate in ideal conditions — unlimited time, no stress, and access to vast resources. Human students, in contrast, face real-world constraints, making their achievements equally commendable.

What Does This Mean for the Future?

This milestone doesn’t signal that AI is here to replace students — but rather, that AI has the potential to revolutionize education, tutoring, and exam preparation. Gemini 2.5 Pro is a tool that can empower learners, not compete with them.
