A solution of two miscible liquids showing negative deviation from Raoult’s law will have: [2024]
(4)
The actual pressure of solution is less than that predicted by Raoult's law. This happens if A-B attractions are stronger than A-A and B-B interaction, as in that case molecules will have lesser tendency to vapourise. This kind of solution is said to follow negative deviation from Raoult's law. Boiling occurs when vapour pressure of a liquid is equal to atmospheric pressure. As vapour pressure of the solution is less than expected value, it needs to be heated to a higher temperature in order to match its vapour pressure with atmospheric pressure. Hence boiling point of the solution is more than the expected value.
