NCERT Physics Chapter – Units and Measurement

The chapter “Units and Measurement” in NCERT Physics lays the foundation for all scientific study. It introduces students to the importance of measurement in physics and the need for standard units. Without proper measurement, scientific observations and experiments cannot be accurate or comparable.

This chapter explains the International System of Units (SI units), which is universally accepted to maintain uniformity. Students learn about fundamental units like meter, kilogram, second, ampere, kelvin, mole, and candela, as well as derived units used in advanced topics. The concept of dimensional analysis is also introduced, which helps in checking the correctness of equations and converting physical quantities from one system of units to another.

Practical examples of measurement errors, significant figures, and accuracy versus precision are discussed to build analytical thinking. Overall, this chapter equips students with the basic tools necessary to study physics in a systematic and scientific manner.
