UP Board Class 9 Maths Book – Heron’s Formula

The chapter “Heron’s Formula” in the UP Board Class 9 Maths Book introduces a simple yet powerful method to calculate the area of triangles when all three sides are known. Named after the ancient Greek mathematician Hero (Heron) of Alexandria, this formula eliminates the need to measure height, making it highly useful in solving real-world problems.

According to Heron’s Formula, if the sides of a triangle are a, b, and c, and the semi-perimeter (s) is (a + b + c)/2, then the area of the triangle = √[s(s – a)(s – b)(s – c)]. This concept not only applies to triangles but can also be extended to find the areas of quadrilaterals and other shapes when divided into triangles.

The chapter includes step-by-step derivations, solved examples, and exercise questions to help students gain complete understanding. Based on the NCERT-aligned syllabus, it enhances students’ analytical and problem-solving skills while preparing them for exams.

By mastering Heron’s Formula, Class 9 students build a strong foundation for future geometry and trigonometry topics.
