Sardar Vallabhbhai National Institute of Technology (SVNIT), Surat

Established in June 1961 as Sardar Vallabhbhai Regional College of Engineering and Technology, a joint venture of the Government of India and Gujarat, the institute was renamed SVNIT Surat in 2003 after being upgraded under the NIT Act. In 2007, it was declared an Institute of National Importance. Set on a sprawling 250 acre urban campus in Surat, Gujarat, SVNIT has the motto “Charioteer of Science” and serves as the Anchor Institute for India’s auto and engineering sectors, including a World Bank-supported Center of Excellence in water resources and flood management.

NIT Surat has distinguished itself through a range of academic and research accomplishments in the engineering domain. It is home to a World Bank-supported Center of Excellence focused on water resources and flood management, playing a crucial role in sustainable infrastructure and disaster mitigation. The institute serves as the Anchor Institute for the engineering and auto sectors in Gujarat, underscoring its industrial relevance and technical leadership. Its Chemical Engineering Society has gained national acclaim, winning the Outstanding Student Chapter Award four consecutive times for its innovative outreach, competitions, and simulation workshops.
