Q 1 :

Match List I with List II.                                                                 [2024]

  List I   List II
A. Fibrous joints I. Adjacent vertebrae, limited movement
B. Cartilaginous joints II. Humerus and Pectoral girdle, rotational movement
C. Hinge joints III. Skull, don’t allow any movement
D. Ball and socket joints IV. Knee, help in locomotion

Choose the correct answer from the options given below:

  • A-IV, B-II, C-III, D-I

  • A-I, B-III, C-II, D-IV

  • A-II, B-III, C-I, D-IV

  • A-III, B-I, C-IV, D-II

(4)

Fibrous joints do not allow any movement. These types of joints are shown by the flat skull bones which are fused end-to-end with the help of dense fibrous connective tissues. In cartilaginous joints, the opposing surfaces are connected by cartilage, which allows limited movement, e.g., joints between adjacent vertebrae.
Hinge joints help in locomotion, e.g., knee joints. Ball and socket joints are present between humerus and pectoral girdle and allow rotational movement.

Q 2 :

Match List I with List II.                                                  [2023]

List I (Type of Joint)   List II (Found between)
A. Cartilaginous Joint I. Between flat skull bones
B. Ball and Socket Joint II. Between adjacent vertebrae in vertebral column
C. Fibrous Joint III. Between carpal and metacarpal of thumb
D. Saddle Joint IV. Between humerus and pectoral girdle

Choose the correct answer from the options given below:

  • A-I, B-IV, C-III, D-II

  • A-II, B-IV, C-III, D-I

  • A-III, B-I, C-II, D-IV

  • A-II, B-IV, C-I, D-III

(4)

Cartilaginous joint → Between adjacent vertebrae in vertebral column
Ball and Socket joint → Between Humerus and Pectoral girdle
Fibrous joint → Between flat skull bones
Saddle joint → Between carpal and metacarpal of thumb

Q 3 :

Match List-I with List-II.                                                    [2021]

  List-I   List-II
(p) Scapula (i) Cartilaginous joints
(q) Cranium (ii) Flat bone
(r) Sternum (iii) Fibrous joints
(s) Vertebral column (iv) Triangular flat bone

Choose the correct answer from the options given below.

  • p-(iv), q-(iii), r-(ii), s-(i)

  • p-(i), q-(iii), r-(ii), s-(iv)

  • p-(ii), q-(iii), r-(iv), s-(i)

  • p-(iv), q-(ii), r-(iii), s-(i)

(1)

Scapula is a large triangular flat bone situated in the dorsal part of the thorax between the second and the seventh ribs. Cranium shows fibrous joints which do not allow any movement. Sternum is a flat bone on the ventral midline of thorax. Vertebral column involves cartilaginous joints in which bones are joined with the help of cartilages.

Q 4 :

Match the following joints with the bones involved:                        [2019]

(1) Gliding joint    (i) Between carpal and metacarpal of thumb
(2) Hinge joint      (ii) Between atlas and axis
(3) Pivot joint     (iii) Between the carpals
(4) Saddle joint       (iv) Between humerus and ulna

Select the correct option from the following:

  • (1)-(iii), (2)-(iv), (3)-(ii), (4)-(i)

  • (1)-(iv), (2)-(i), (3)-(ii), (4)-(iii)

  • (1)-(iv), (2)-(ii), (3)-(iii), (4)-(i)

  • (1)-(i), (2)-(iii), (3)-(ii), (4)-(iv)

(1)

Q 5 :

The pivot joint between atlas and axis is a type of                    [2017]

  • cartilaginous joint

  • synovial joint

  • saddle joint

  • fibrous joint

(2)

Q 6 :

Which of the following joints would allow no movements?               [2015]

  • Synovial joint

  • Ball and socket joint

  • Fibrous joint

  • Cartilaginous joint

(3)

Fibrous or immovable joints are the joints in which no movement occurs between the bones concerned. White fibrous tissue is present between the ends of the bones. Fibrous joint occurs between the bones of the skull called sutures and the joints between the teeth and the maxilla and the teeth and the mandible.

Q 7 :

Select the correct matching of the type of the joint with the example in human skeletal system.                   [2014]

  • Type of joint - Cartilaginous joint

Example - Between frontal and parietal

  • Type of joint - Pivot joint

Example - Between third and fourth cervical vertebrae

  • Type of joint - Hinge joint

Example - Between humerus and pectoral girdle

  • Type of joint - Gliding joint

    Example - Between carpals

(4)

Cartilaginous joint – Between the adjacent vertebrae in vertebral column
Pivot joint – Between atlas and axis
Hinge joint – Knee joint
Ball and socket joint – Between head of humerus and glenoid cavity of pectoral girdle
Fibrous joint – Between frontal and parietal bones of skull (sutures)
